KING GEORGE V
George V reigned from
1911-1936. The first issue appeared in 1912 featuring the 1903 stamps with
a portrait of the new King replacing that of Edward VII. Values of ½d, 1d,
1½d, 2d, 2½d, 3d, 8d, 1s, 2s and 3s were issued, featuring either Government
House or The Wharf. The 1d value was surcharged 1d War Tax in various styles
in 1916 and 1919.

In 1912 the 4d and 6d values were issued in
the small format design in typical Crown Colony style. Inscribed postage and
revenue they were replaced by 2 similar stamps in 1913 inscribed postage on
each side.

definitives
In 1922 a new complete set of definitives featuring
21 values to £1 appeared. The design incorporated the badge of St.Helena
with the portrait of the King above. This was the final definitive set of
the reign.

In 1934 St.Helena celebrated the Centenary
of British Colonisation and a commemorative set to 10s was issued. The stamps
portrayed various aspects of St.Helena.
The ½d value showed the prominent features
of Lot and Lot's Wife. The 1d value, a Plantation.
The 1½d value a map of St.Helena. The 2d value depicts The Quay. The 3d value
James Valley. The 6d Jamestown from the Sea. The 1/- Mundens rocks. The 2/6
value depicts St.Helena the islands saint. The 5/- value High Knoll and the
10/- The badge of the colony. 5 values of the set depict the monarchs through
whose reigns St.Helena has been a British Colony - William IV, Queen Victoria,
Edward V11 and George V.
The 1934 Centenary set
The final set of George V's reign was the
Omnibus set issued by all the Crown Colonies to celebrate the Silver Jubilee
of George V's reign.
